Barger President & CEO Receives Local Honor

The LaSalle Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently honored local businessman Scott Welch for his outstanding support of and participation in area service organizations.

Welch is the president and CEO of Welch Packaging Group as well as Barger Packaging both in Elkhart.

He serves on the board of directors of Lake City Bank, Elkhart General Healthcare Systems and the Elkhart County Community Foundation. Welch is on the board of trustees of DePauw University and is a past board member of the United Way of Elkhart County, YMCA, Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce and the Elkhart Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

He also served on the advisory board to former Elkhart Mayor David Miller and received the 2004 Lions Club Citizen of the Year Award and the 2007 Community Services Award from DePauw.

The LaSalle Council presents the award annually to a person or group whose leadership has contributed significantly to the growth and vitality of our nation.
